ADSL Setup Information

Note: to set up your ADSL link, you will need to connect the modem to:

• your phone line
• your PC or home network
• the power

  Connecting to Your Phone Line
  Connect your system as follows:

  Muliple telephones on a single telephone line

  Single telephone connection

  
  

  Connect all components and turn them on. After about a minute, the SYN light on the modem should light up and should remain steady, not flashing. This indicates that your modem has identified an active ADSL line connection.

  NOTE: If you connect too many devices [including telephone, fax, answering machine and the like], your ADSL may be affected and may fail. Please check the underside of your phone for the REN [Ringer Equivalence Number] which should not exceed 2.5.

  It is vital that you set up the telephone side correctly, or you may accidentally filter out the ADSL signal from the ADSL modem and the service will not work.

  If the SYN light flashes or does not come on at all, please contact Technical Support.

  Connecting to Your PC
  USB port in your computer [connections to your PC or office network]

• USB cable supplied
• Driver CD supplied
• the USB device will be configured as an Ethernet device
• see Ethernet Configuration below

  Direct connection [Ethernet to your PC]

• install a standard network card in your PC, unless you have a spare card available
• use the cross over Ethernet cable supplied
• configure the Ethernet card as per Ethernet configuration below

  Note: Provided your ADSL modem and PC are turned on, you should notice the LAN LINK light come on after you plug the Ethernet cable into your ADSL modem. This indicates that your computer has a established a link with your modem.

  Networking [Ethernet to a hub or switch, then to many PCs]

• connect the modem to your hub using a standard CAT 5 cable (different cable from the one supplied with the modem)
• connect multiple PCs to your hub using the Ethernet configuration below

  Ethernet Configuration
  PC set up

• Select Start on your desktop toolbar Select Settings
• Select Control Panel
• Select Network or Network Connections icon
• Once selected click on Properties
• Set the IP address to Obtain IP address automatically
• Enable Automatically assign default gateway
• Set DNS to Disable

  Note : If you use Windows 95/98 and after making these changes you still have difficulties, you may need to specify DNS settings inside of TCP/IP. Please see below.

  MAC set up

  Let your machine load to the Finder

• Select Control Panel
• Select the TCP/IP icon
• If you have set up your connection using Ethernet, you will need to go into TCP/IP - Which has been bounded to your ethernet card ie: TCP/IP - Intel Pro100 PCI adapter.
• Click Properties

  ADSL Modem Configuration
  The following settings are taken from the D-Link DSL-300G setup page. All ADSL modems are similar, so we present the basic configuration here.

  Open Internet Explorer and enter http://10.3.1.1 to connect to the ADSL modem.

  Select PPP in the Operation mode setting.

  Select PPPoA VC-MUX as the connection type.

  Customer default settings: Username: username@mudginet.your-dsl.net
  Password: yourpassword

  Click Save & Reboot to save your settings.

  Your D-Link ADSL modem is now setup for use with Mudgee Internet
